CARLISLE, Pa. - the Little Lions had a big 28-point third quarter on Saturday, sealing a 35-0 victory over Carlisle (Pa.).
State College scored on a touchdown pass by
Pat Irwin to
Andrew Kelly, a Irwin touchdown run, a touchdown run by
Dan Fry and a Kelly touchdown run in the quarter.
After taking the lead on a Irwin touchdown pass to
Darian Herncane in the second quarter, SC led 7-0 at the half.
The Little Lions expanded their lead to 35 points entering the fourth quarter. State College scored four times in the third, including once on a Irwin touchdown pass to Kelly.
SC's most effective player was Irwin. The junior quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
The Little Lions entered the contest giving up 19.6 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding the Thundering Herd below their season average of 3.4 points scored per game.
A 38-28 State College victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
With the win the Little Lions extended their winning streak to three games.
In a Mid-Penn - Commonwealth game next week Carlisle (0-8) takes on Central Dauphin, and State College (6-2) will go up against Mifflin County also in a Mid-Penn - Commonwealth game.
