Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Lafayette Christian Cougars walked away with it. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 82-69 on Monday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Lafayette Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bruno Tellez led the charge by scoring 31 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Tellez has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last 19 times he's played. Joshua Zapata was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with eight rebounds and six steals.
Lafayette Christian is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. As for Covington Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.
