Sanderson has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. Having just played yesterday, they will jump right back in to play the Van Horn Eagles at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Sanderson comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Even though Sanderson has not done well against Grandfalls-Royalty recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Sanderson pulled ahead with a 1-0 photo finish over Grandfalls-Royalty. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Sanderson has scored all year.
Meanwhile, Van Horn unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. Their tough 55-31 loss to Marathon might stick with them for a while. Van Horn has not had much luck with Marathon recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Van Horn had strong showings from Taylor Martinez, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds, and Mallory Mendoza, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Mendoza pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Sanderson's victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-7. As for Van Horn, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.
Sanderson was dealt a bruising 48-16 defeat at the hands of Van Horn when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Can Sanderson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
