Clarence Cannon recap October 1, 2013
South Shelby scaled the state rankings by moving to 204 from 231 this week, the biggest jump in Clarence Cannon. The Cardinals climbed the ranks as a result of topping Monroe City 27-0.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Palmyra beat Louisiana 42-8. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Macon's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Craig Smith threw for 179 yards and Brendan Watts had 104 yards receiving. On the ground Joe Lewis contributed 120 yards. Lewis helped Macon's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 67 yards.
Lewis was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 120 yards on 12 carries as the Tigers topped Highland. Chris Little also contributed to the rushing game with 118 yards on the ground.
Macon's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 884 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Watts has 23 catches for 524 yards.
A big matchup in Clarence Cannon this week will be when Clark County takes on Palmyra. As it stands, the Indians are in third, while Kevin Miles' team is in first.
South Shelby made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,762 from 10,958. The improvement was largely due to a 27-0 victory over the Panthers last week.
