Bertie's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zymiere Dempsey led the charge by scoring seven points along with five assists and five steals. Dempsey is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Trevon Halleran, who scored 13 points.
Bertie's win bumped their record up to 16-3. As for Gates County, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bertie will square off against the Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Martin County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven matchups.
