The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mary Star of the Sea, who took down 853rd ranked Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 21-20. Shane Nunez ran for 136 yards in the win.
La Salle extended the longest winning streak in Del Rey this week by beating Verbum Dei, 65-7. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
La Salle's dynamic duo of Austin Wallis and Jared Akins proved tough for the Eagles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wallis threw for 170 yards and four touchdowns and Akins had 63 yards receiving. Jalen Gray helped La Salle's passing attack out by catching two balls for 40 yards.
Jared Gonzales provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Cardinals fell to the Stars. He completed one pass for 14 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 261 yards. Gonzales' favorite target this week was Albert Roman, who caught four passes for 57 yards.
Russell Gordon's team's Wallis and Gray have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Wallis has thrown for 805 yards this season, while Gray, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 15 catches for 245 yards. Cantwell-Sacred Heart's Gonzales leads the league in rushing yards with 659.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Mary Star of the Sea takes on the Lancers. Dino Andrie's team is in third place, while La Salle is in first place.
The Stars moved up to 889 from 923 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Del Rey. A 21-20 win over Kim Taylor's team helped Mary Star of the Sea improve its standing.
