The Meridian Hawks lost against the Clinton Maroons back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Meridian took a 56-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Clinton. Meridian has not had much luck with Clinton recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Ella Woolington and Shelby Renfro certainly did their best on Monday to try and avoid the loss. Woolington scored 19 points, while Renfro scored 17 points. Renfro also scored 15+ points for the first time this season.
Meridian has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Clinton, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-5.
Meridian will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on South Fork at 6:00 p.m. on January 16, 2024. As for Clinton, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Roanoke-Benson at 6:00 p.m. Roanoke-Benson is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
