The Dos Palos Broncos had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They walked away with a 14-6 win over Firebaugh. Given Dos Palos' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 332nd, while Firebaugh is ranked 669th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Dos Palos to victory were Andre Flores and Drake Hennagan. Flores only rushed for 33 yards and and a rushing score, while Hennagan rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
Firebaugh's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Anthony Fernandez, who gained 189 total yards and a touchdown, and Isaac Ceja who threw for 163 yards and a touchdown while completing 80% of his passes. Fernandez was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 66 yards.
Even if they lost, Firebaugh's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Corbin Diedrich.
Dos Palos' victory was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.9 points per game. As for Firebaugh, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dos Palos will take on Coalinga at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
