Even though the Dilley Wolves scored an imposing 60 points on Tuesday, the Lytle Pirates still came out on top. Lytle enjoyed a cozy 75-60 win over the Wolves. Given Lytle's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 626th, while the Wolves are ranked 1509th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Zacharee Perez was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Perez, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Jacob Lopez and Dorian Aranda certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Lopez scored 23 points along with four steals, while Aranda dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lopez has scored all season. Gavin Hernandez was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Lytle is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season. As for Dilley, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-18.
Lytle will be playing in front of their home fans against the Owls at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hondo knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully the Pirates like a good challenge. As for Dilley, they will head out on the road to square off against the Mustangs at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Natalia has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 400 points over their last six matchups.
