The Omaha North Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Blair Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Omaha North's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Blair's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Omaha North will bounce into Wednesday's game after beating Omaha Central, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Vikings came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 4-1 on Tuesday. While the Vikings didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Dalton Wagner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Max Bolouvi was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Chance Kinman, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Blair scored first but ultimately less than Beatrice in their matchup on Monday. They fell just short of the Orangemen by a score of 6-4.
Blair also got a good showing from Jake Gaskill, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Blair saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brevin Leggott, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Colton Nixon also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Omaha North pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Blair, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Omaha North suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Blair in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
