The Mercer Cardinals entered their tilt with the Grundy County/Newtown-Harris Panthers with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Mercer secured a 37-32 W over Grundy County/Newtown-Harris on Thursday. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Mercer has scored all year.
Grundy County/Newtown-Harris lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kinsley Allnutt, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Allnutt is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Landry Oaks, who scored two points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Mercer's win bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Grundy County/Newtown-Harris, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.
Mercer on the road again on Saturday and play against Meadville at 5:00 p.m. on January 27th. Meadville is on a four-game streak of home wins, Mercer a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Grundy County/Newtown-Harris won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Tina-Avalon at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Tina-Avalon is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
