Hurricane is 2-8 against Snow Canyon since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hurricane Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Snow Canyon Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Hurricane is hoping to put an end to a 15-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Hurricane pushed their score all the way to 64 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 76-64 to Crimson Cliffs. Hurricane has struggled against Crimson Cliffs recently, as their game on Wednesday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Hurricane's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Quinn Gubler, who scored 19 points, and Rj Hurst who scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gubler has scored all season. Calan Hughes was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Snow Canyon ended up a good deal behind Dixie on Wednesday and lost 70-54. While losing is never fun, Snow Canyon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Dixie is ranked fourth).
Owen Mackay put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 27 points along with three steals. That was a full 50% of Snow Canyon's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Drey Smith, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Hurricane has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Snow Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Hurricane hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 59.1 points per game. It's a different story for Snow Canyon, though, as they've been averaging only 59.3 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Hurricane came up short against Snow Canyon in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 50-38. Can Hurricane avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
