Toombs County (Lyons, Ga.) jumped out to an early lead against
Long County (Ludowici, Ga.) and never looked back on the way to a 33-20 victory on Saturday.
The Bulldogs put up 13 points in the opening frame. Toombs County scored on a touchdown run and a rushing touchdown.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run in the first quarter, TC led 21-0 at the half.
The Lyons school saw its 21-point halftime lead fall to nine entering the fourth.
Josh Berry played well for the Blue Tide. The senior running back ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to eight on the year.
A 34-14 Toombs County victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The win was a nice bounce back for Toombs County, which lost to McIntosh County Academy last week, 33-12.
Long County (3-4) goes up against Jeff Davis in a AA Region 2 game matchup next week, while Toombs County (5-2) locks horns with Benedictine also in a AA Region 2 game.
