Basketball Recap: Tensas Comes Up Short

After flying high against Delhi Charter back in December of 2024, Tensas came back down to earth. The Tensas Panthers were dealt a 69-41 loss at the hands of the Mangham Dragons on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 277th, while the Dragons are ranked 137th).

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kayleigh Brooks, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. Brooks is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Shakira Turner, who posted 13 points.

Even though they lost, Tensas smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Tensas dropped their record down to 4-6 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Mangham, their win bumped their record up to 11-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tensas will host St. Frederick at 6:00 p.m. on January 14th. As for Mangham, they and Sterlington will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played. Sterlington has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
