5A District 16 recap November 13, 2013
American Heritage extended the longest winning streak in 5A District 16 this week by beating Kathleen, 33-13. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Patriots.
American Heritage took down the Devils /Red 33-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Brandon Vicens threw for 90 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 40 yards in the win.
Juwan Dowels made the biggest impact on defense this week as Mike Rumph's team bested Kathleen. The 5-foot-10 senior grabbed 1 interception.
Deon McIntosh was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 126 yards on 16 carries as Cardinal Gibbons topped Irving Strickland's team. Milan Lemon also contributed to the rushing game with 60 yards on the ground.
The Chiefs' Peyton Bender and Trevon Lee have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Bender has thrown for 2,217 yards this season, while Lee has 48 catches for 743 yards. Key West's Mekhi Sargent leads the league in rushing yards with 1,080.
Sony Michel of the American Heritage is just 52 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 134 carries Michel has put up 948 yards this year.
The Conchs led 5A District 16 in scoring this week by notching 35 points on Braddock. Trevor Pike threw for 120 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 27 yards during the win.
