After each having a week off, the Blackstone-Millville Chargers and the Southbridge Pioneers will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
Blackstone-Millville can't be to happy about their upcoming road matchup considering what happened when they opened their season on the away from home last Friday. They were dealt a 35-0 loss at the hands of Bellingham.
Blackstone-Millville's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Karson Cournoyer.
Meanwhile, while Southbridge put up plenty of points last Friday, the same can't be said for Murdock. Southbridge blew past Murdock 32-0 on the road. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Pioneers had established a 24 point advantage.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southbridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Miguel Velasquez, who rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown. Velasquez also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing a fumble and making six total tackles. Alexander Bermudez Miranda was another key player, rushing for 66 yards and a touchdown.
Southbridge wouldn't let Murdock keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Southbridge can thank Adrian Melendez and Velasquez for forcing both of them.
Everything came up roses for Blackstone-Millville against Southbridge in their previous matchup back in September of 2023 as the team secured a 37-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Blackstone-Millville since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
