The West Mifflin Titans will head out to challenge Oakland Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West Mifflin has three straight wins, Oakland Catholic has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
West Mifflin had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Ringgold on Wednesday. The Titans blew past the Rams 8-2. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
RYLIE DOBNAK spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, AUBREY JASKULSKI was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. AMELIA NOVOTNI also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Belle Vernon hit Oakland Catholic with a five-run fourth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. Oakland Catholic came up short against Belle Vernon, falling 9-3.
Nina Hillard was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.
West Mifflin's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Oakland Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
West Mifflin's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Titans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Oakland Catholic, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will West Mifflin continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went West Mifflin's way against Oakland Catholic in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as West Mifflin made off with a 13-4 victory. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do Oakland Catholic have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
