Grand County is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Kanab a five-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The Grand County Red Devils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Kanab Cowboys at 3:30 p.m. Grand County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Grand County came up short against San Juan and fell 9-5.
Grand County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Althoff, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another was Kaiya Moore, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Kanab hadn't done well against Parowan recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cowboys skirted past the Rams 6-5. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Danni Waters spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Tessa Veater was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Marisa Jensen, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Kanab moved to 4-18 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Grand County, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.
Kanab's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Grand County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. It's a different story for Kanab, though, as they've only averaged .245. Will they be able to contain Grand County's hitters?
Everything went Grand County's way against Kanab in their previous matchup back in May of 2017, as Grand County made off with a 14-4 win. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Cowboys have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
