Northfield has gone 8-2 against Whitko recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Norsemen will venture away from home to square off against the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. Northfield is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
On Monday, Northfield came up short against Northwestern and fell 9-4.
Korbin Haupert was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Whitko made easy work of Argos on Tuesday and carried off a 24-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Hunter Long and Easton Grable were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Long pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Grable tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. At bat, Long went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Grable got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That double was Long's first of the season.
In other batting news, Whitko got a massive performance out of Riley Harman, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Harman has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Ethen Morris, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Whitko always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .707. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Whitko's record is now 9-5. As for Northfield, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Northfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Whitko struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
