After two games on the road, Thornton is heading back home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Lincoln Lancers on Saturday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Thornton beat Alameda 37-26.
Thornton can attribute much of their success to Victoria Perez, who scored ten points along with six steals and five rebounds. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Camryn Montelongo, who scored five points along with eight rebounds.
Lincoln has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 26 points or more this season. They really took it to Alameda for the full four quarters, racking up a 61-31 victory on the road. The win made it back-to-back wins for Lincoln.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lincoln to victory, but perhaps none more so than Amina Abdikadir, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The match was Abdikadir's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Hawa Gueye was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
Thornton's victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4. As for Lincoln, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Thornton beat Lincoln 36-28 in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Will Thornton repeat their success, or does Lincoln have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
