The Bellmont Braves lost to the Heritage Patriots back in December of 2022, but the Bellmont Braves didn't allow the Heritage Patriots the same satisfaction on Saturday. Everything went Bellmont's way against Heritage as Bellmont made off with a 63-38 victory. Given Bellmont's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Heritage is ranked 369th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the defeat, Heritage saw an underclassman step up: Lantae Cassel scored nine points. Cassel also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Landon Lybarger, who scored six points.
Heritage struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
The win makes it two in a row for Bellmont and bumps their season record up to 4-1. As for Heritage, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Bellmont will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Garrett at 7:30 p.m. As for Heritage, they will head out on the road to face off against Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Saturday.
