The Lakeview Sailors will take on the Cochranton Cardinals at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Lakeview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Lakeview didn't have quite enough to beat DuBois and fell 6-5. The loss was the Sailors' first of the season.
Cody Fagley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances. Carsen Boitnott also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cochranton). They walked away with a 9-5 victory over Rocky Grove on Friday.
Andrew Albert made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Albert was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bradyen Burnette, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Trent Hoban was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
Cochranton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rocky Grove only posted an OBP of .294.
Cochranton's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Lakeview, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.
Cochranton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lakeview hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. It's a different story for Cochranton, though, as they've only averaged .248. Will they be able to contain Lakeview's hitters?
Everything went Lakeview's way against Cochranton in their previous meeting back in April of 2021, as Lakeview made off with a 22-8 victory. Will the Sailors repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
