Wellington has won three straight games at home, while Severance has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Saturday. The Eagles will welcome the Silver Knights at 11:00 a.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Saturday.
Wellington's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Liberty Common as they made off with a 10-0 victory.
Tanner Gray was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Gabbert, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Wellington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty Common only posted an OBP of .318.
Meanwhile, Severance made easy work of Thompson Valley on Thursday and carried off a 17-9 win. Considering the Silver Knights have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Karson Beidleman looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Severance got a massive performance out of Finn Wischmeier, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Colton Matthews, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Wellington's victory bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Severance, their win bumped their record up to 16-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wellington has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Severance struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Wellington might still be hurting after the 9-1 loss they got from Severance in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
