The Byron Bears are on the road again on Friday to play the Chatfield Gophers at 5:00 p.m.
On Thursday, Byron wound up with the same score they had in their last game (6-3), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
MacKenzie Steele put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Steele was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Kaydence Fjerstad made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with a home run.
Meanwhile, Chatfield put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Wabasha-Kellogg 8-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Chatfield.
Byron's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-5. As for Chatfield, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.
Byron was able to grind out a solid win over Chatfield when the teams last played back in May of 2023, winning 7-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Byron since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
