Malad and Preston are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Dragons will head out to square off against the Indians at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Malad's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five games.
Malad's tournament run continued when they took on Challis on Saturday. The Dragons blew past the Vikings 13-6. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Brooks Blaisdell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Ethan Horsley was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Kyson Willie, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Malad always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Preston, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against Century by a score of 9-5 on Thursday.
Ezra Benevidez was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Preston: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 4-6-1 otherwise. Conner Thomson was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Malad is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Preston, their record now sits at 8-6-1.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Malad has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .456. However, it's not like Preston struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Malad came up short against Preston in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, falling 10-5. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
