The Bladensburg Mustangs were the 44-0 winner over the Laurel Spartans when they last played one another back in October of 2016, but their luck changed this time around. Bladensburg fell just short of Laurel by a score of 28-25. Bladensburg has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why Bladensburg lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Marcus Ross. Despite the final result, he rushed for 292 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also picked up 131 receiving yards and a touchdown. Ross' longest rush was for an incredible 91 yards.
Leading Laurel to victory were Takel Sanford and Nathan Watkins. Sanford rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns, while Watkins gained 190 total yards and a touchdown. Edwin Rivas got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Laurel's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Myles Barrett and Ryyan Brown who racked up five sacks between them.
Bladensburg's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Laurel, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-4.
Bladensburg will head out on the road to face off against Flowers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Flowers' favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Bladensburg has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Laurel will take on Blair at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Blair is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
