The Lone Peak Knights will challenge the Corner Canyon Chargers at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Lone Peak will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Copper Hills on Wednesday. Lone Peak was the clear victor by an 11-4 margin over Copper Hills. With that win, the Knights brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Braden Packer and Bowen Barnes did most of the damage at the plate: Packer went 3-for-4 with five RBI, while Barnes scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Barnes has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Ladd, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Lone Peak was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Corner Canyon). They put the hurt on Weber with a sharp 21-1 victory on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Chargers considering their two-run performance the game before.
Carson Paulsen spent all four innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit.
On the hitting side, Drew Whatcott was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Garrett Downing, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Corner Canyon's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Lone Peak, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lone Peak hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Corner Canyon struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
