Softball Recap: Emerald Ridge Snags Sixth Win in Last Eight Games

Emerald Ridge had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Puyallup on Saturday. The Jaguars were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Vikings. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Alanna Wirtala spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ava Puttler, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Payton Robillard, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Emerald Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Puyallup, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-9.

Emerald Ridge didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against Tahoma on the 23rd. Puyallup does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
