The Salem Generals will head out on the road to square off against the Granville Golden Horde at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Salem will be strutting in after a win while the Golden Horde will be coming in after a defeat.
Salem came into Friday's matchup having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 49-38 win over Lake George on Friday. The win was just what Salem needed coming off of a 52-29 loss in their prior contest.
Meanwhile, Granville pushed their score all the way to 61 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Hartford Central at home by a decisive 80-61 margin. Granville was down 63-41 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite their loss, Granville saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Paige Taylor, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Melissa Beaver, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Salem's win bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Granville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9.
Salem came up short against the Golden Horde in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 43-33. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Taylor, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Now that Salem knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
