The Clewiston Tigers will challenge the Immokalee Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clewiston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Clewiston needed a bit of extra time to put away DeSoto County. They had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 7-6.
Clewiston let Jackson Mann and Cayson Holman run wild. Mann scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Holman scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Holman has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Osdiel Perez-Rojas, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Clewiston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Immokalee). Everything went their way against Donahue Catholic on Monday as Immokalee made off with a 21-6 win. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Alex Vinton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Immokalee is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-7 otherwise. Vinton was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ruben Anzualda was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Aaron Yzaguirre was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Immokalee pushed their record up to 7-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing ten hits in those games compared to only 3.92 in the others. As for Clewiston, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
Clewiston skirted past Immokalee 5-4 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Does Clewiston have another victory up their sleeve, or will Immokalee turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
