The Antonito Trojans will head out on the road to take on the Liberty Tree Academy War Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Antonito is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Antonito scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 59-19 win over Lake City Community. That 40 points margin sets a new team best for Antonito this season.
Antonito got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jesus Madril out in front who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Madril has scored all season. Jasiah Jiron was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Liberty Tree Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on January 9th after their seventh straight loss. They were outmatched by James Irwin on the road and fell 75-29. While losing is never fun, Liberty Tree Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 320th, while James Irwin is ranked 87th).
Antonito's win ended a 11-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-10. As for Liberty Tree Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
Antonito came up short against Liberty Tree Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 59-48. Can Antonito avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
