PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -
Vero Beach (Fla.) saw its 14-point lead dwindle to 10, but still managed to hang on and beat
Centennial (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) 24-14 on Saturday.
The two teams were tied at seven heading into halftime. The Indians took the lead for good on a touchdown pass by
Dalton Stokes to
Jimmy Williamson with 10:00 left in the third quarter.
Stokes stood out for Vero Beach in the win. The junior quarterback threw two touchdowns.
VB had given up an average of 8.8 points prior to the contest.
The victory will ease some of the sting of the Indians' close 17-14 loss to the Eagles last season.
In a non-conference game next week Centennial (1-6) takes on Central, and Vero Beach (5-1) will go up against Wellington also in a non-conference game.
