Baseball Game Preview: Laughlin Cougars vs. GV Christian Guardians

Laughlin is a perfect 3-0 against GV Christian since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cougars will welcome the Guardians at 1:00 p.m. Laughlin has given up an average of 14.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Laughlin fell victim to White Pine and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 15-0 to the Bobcats. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask GV Christian). They put the hurt on Beatty with a sharp 24-15 victory last Wednesday. With that win, the Guardians brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

Christopher Oxhorn made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Wake Rowling was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing six bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those six stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Wayne Budd was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

GV Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for GV Christian and bumps their season record up to 4-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for Laughlin, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.

Laughlin took their victory against GV Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 18-3 score. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Guardians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
