Two dominant signal callers in Brennan Myer and Zuric Humes are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Wakeland Wolverines will square off against the Mansfield Timberview Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wakeland is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
Last Friday, Wakeland strolled past Frisco with points to spare, taking the game 42-24.
One reason for the win was Wakeland's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Cooper Snyder was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Meanwhile, Mansfield Timberview stacked a eighth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 55-0 victory over Adams. Mansfield Timberview pushed the score to 48-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Adams had no chance of recovering from.
Humes had a dynamite game for Mansfield Timberview, throwing for 276 yards and four touchdowns while completing 90.9% of his passes, and also punching in a rushing score. Mansfield Timberview also got help from Cameron Bates who showed off his sure hands for 141 receiving yards.
Wakeland pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Liberty and 2-8 Lebanon Trail (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 26.7% over those games). As for Mansfield Timberview, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as both teams haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Wakeland commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 4.7 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Mansfield Timberview struggles in that department as they've been even better at 6.5 per game.
