Lake Station Edison fell victim to Washington Township and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 21-0 to the Senators. Having soared to a lofty 28 runs in the game before, the Fighting Eagles' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Hammond Morton entered their tilt with Mishawaka Marian on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They walked away with a 7-4 win over the Knights.
Ei'Lani Herrera was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Juleeana Temores was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Analiya Feliciano was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Hammond Morton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Lake Station Edison's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Hammond Morton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lake Station Edison has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .488. However, it's not like Hammond Morton struggles in that department as they've averaged .562. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
