Pottsville hasn't had much luck against Blue Mountain recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Crimson Tide will look to defend their home field against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Pottsville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Pottsville and North Schuylkill, and North Schuylkill kept the tradition alive. The Crimson Tide came up short against the Spartans on Wednesday, falling 12-1.
Pottsville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jes Siminitus, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Lana Cromyak also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Blue Mountain waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Red Raiders get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Chloe Brown made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emmerson Frie, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Callie Peel, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Blue Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .640. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Our Lady of Lourdes Regional only posted an OBP of .100.
Blue Mountain pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pottsville, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pottsville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Blue Mountain struggles in that department as they've averaged .516. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pottsville might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Blue Mountain in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Crimson Tide have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
