Marissa Chronic made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Tri-City Christian got a massive performance out of Arantxa Espejo, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Espejo continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Logan Valdivia, who went 1-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Tri-City Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Valley Center lost 16-2 to Ramona last Wednesday. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Valley Center saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Willa Sharpe, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Valley Center's defeat dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Tri-City Christian, their record now sits at 12-3-1.
Valley Center's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Tri-City Christian has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Valley Center, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Tri-City Christian's sizable advantage in that area, the Jaguars will need to find a way to close that gap.
