Softball Recap: Thursday's Defeat Ends Abingdon's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Abingdon unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Christiansburg Blue Demons by a score of 16-15. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Falcons of the 10-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Mariah Branscomb and Lauren Baker did some serious damage despite the final result: Branscomb scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Baker scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Brenna Green, who scored two runs while going 1-for-5.

Abingdon's defeat dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Christiansburg, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Abingdon will host Ridgeview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Christiansburg, they will face off against Cave Spring at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
