The Shishmaref Northern Lights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 64-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Scammon Bay. While losing is never fun, Shishmaref can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Scammon Bay is ranked fifth).
Shishmaref lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Fred Olanna, who scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Olanna has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ivan Davis-Nayokpuk, who scored 13 points.
Scammon Bay had a senior duo take command as Josiah Sundown scored 26 points and Stewie Sundown scored 19 points. Sundown has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played.
Shishmaref's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Scammon Bay, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.
