Carson hasn't had much luck against McQueen recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Senators are taking a road trip to challenge the Lancers at 3:45 p.m. Carson has given up an average of 7.6 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Carson is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Spanish Springs, who was ranked third at the time (Carson was ranked 24th). The Senators lost 11-1 to the Cougars on Saturday. The Senators just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.
Carson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ari Gallardo-Yanez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, McQueen sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-9 win over Galena on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lancers.
Violet Moyao made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Maddie Hawkins was incredible, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lilly Fanene, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
McQueen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
McQueen pushed their record up to 15-11 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Carson, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Carson hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like McQueen struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Carson couldn't quite get it done against McQueen when the teams last played on April 3rd as they fell 6-3. Can the Senators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
