Quaker Valley is 0-4 against Mohawk Area since April of 2023 but things could change on Wednesday. The Quakers will head out on the road to challenge the Warriors at 4:15 p.m. Quaker Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Quaker Valley turned things around against Beaver Falls on Tuesday. They blew past the Tigers 19-7. Considering the Quakers have won three games by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Olivia Hoose made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Hoose was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and three doubles.
In other batting news, Quaker Valley got a massive performance out of Grace Carver, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Carver has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Bella Jarrett, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Quaker Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Mohawk Area waltzed into their contest on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Wolverine.
Like Quaker Valley, Mohawk Area also got a great game from a two-way player: Reagan Magno. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Magno has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mylie Pistorius, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Lydia Cole was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Mohawk Area pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Quaker Valley, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-4.
Both Quaker Valley and Mohawk Area just can't seem to miss. The Quakers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Mohawk Area struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Quaker Valley suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Mohawk Area in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Quakers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
