Baseball Recap: Vincennes Lincoln Wins Going Away Against North Daviess

Vincennes Lincoln had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt North Daviess on Friday. The Alices put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 11-2 victory. The Alices might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by eight runs or more this season.

Vincennes Lincoln got a great performance from Justice Johnson as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Johnson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Vincennes Lincoln let Donta Henderson and Daniel Henderson run wild. Donta went 2-for-3 with four RBI, while Daniel went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Daniel a new career-high. Gavin Kelso also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Vincennes Lincoln pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for North Daviess, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vincennes Lincoln will take on Princeton at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Alices 2.7, the Tigers 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for North Daviess, they will face off against Forest Park at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
