In what's become a running theme this season, the Denver Academy Mustangs gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 75-36 win over Gilpin County on the road. That 39 points margin sets a new team best for Denver Academy this season.
Denver Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nolan Monasch led the charge by scoring 30 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Monasch has scored at least a third of Denver Academy's points. Luc Stanley was another key contributor, scoring 22 points.
Gilpin County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Lane Willis, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds, and Drew Starkey who scored nine points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Willis has scored all season.
Even though they lost, Gilpin County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Denver Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.7 points per game. As for Gilpin County, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Denver Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Dayspring Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Dayspring Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Tuesday. As for Gilpin County, they will head out on the road to challenge Clear Creek at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Clear Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday.
