Caylee Barbe was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Simms, who went 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Casey Houghtaling was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Vanguard fell victim to Belleview and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Rattlers by a score of 2-0. The Knights' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Hannah Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, Vanguard saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaelynn Whipple, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Vanguard's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Trinity Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 17-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Trinity Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Vanguard struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
