Football Recap: Newcastle Skates Past Southeast with Ease

A well-balanced attack led Newcastle over Southeast in every quarter on their way to victory on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Racers blew the Spartans out of the water with a 56-7 final score. Considering the Racers have won four contests by more than 22 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newcastle to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ben Rogers, who rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Rogers a new career-high. Taylor 'TJ' Bradford also helped out as he racked up 105 rushing yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Newcastle proved: they limited Southeast to a paltry 1.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Preston Scagnetti for the heroic effort on defense: he. Newcastle didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.7.

Newcastle's defense didn't let Louciano Williams, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. Jaden Fletcher was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three himself. Another thorn in Southeast's side was Scagnetti, who forced two fumbles, made nine total tackles, and defended one pass.

Newcastle has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.8 points over those games. As for Southeast, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-4.

Coming up, Newcastle will look to defend their home field on the 14th against Altus at 7:00 p.m. The Racers will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. Southeast does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
