Gray's Creek is on an eight-game streak of home wins, while Cape Fear is on an 18-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Bears will welcome the Colts at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Gray's Creek 1.5, Cape Fear 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Gray's Creek's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Jack Britt. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won 12 contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
Hannah Welsh was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Amariya Green, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Saniyah Leach was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Cape Fear ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top against South View by a score of 9-6.
Like Gray's Creek, Cape Fear also got a great game from a two-way player: McKinley Kolasa. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 7.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Kolasa was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Allie Dawson was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Amari Adams, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.
Cape Fear kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 12 consecutive games.
Gray's Creek is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Cape Fear, their victory bumped their record up to 19-3.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gray's Creek hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .391. However, it's not like Cape Fear struggles in that department as they've averaged .488. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gray's Creek beat Cape Fear 9-5 when the teams last played back in March. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Colts turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
