The Longmont Trojans will square off against the Green Mountain Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Longmont is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
While Longmont didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over Widefield on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won three matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Bryce Smaic was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
Smaic wasn't the only one making solid contact as nine players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Collin Pool, who went 3-for-5 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Pool has posted since back in April of 2024. Another was Logan Etcheverry, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Longmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Green Mountain fell victim to Valley Vista and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 4-0 to the Monsoon, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Longmont's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Green Mountain, they now have a losing record of 1-2-1.
Longmont took their victory against Green Mountain in their previous matchup back in May of 2017 by a conclusive 9-3. Does Longmont have another victory up their sleeve, or will Green Mountain turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
