The Delta Panthers put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Bayfield 49-0 at home. The result was nothing new for Delta, who have now won six matches by 21 points or more so far this season.
Delta was led to victory by Jovanny Romero and Ty Reed. Romero rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, while Reed threw for 189 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes. Romero was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 55 yards. Talan Hulet was another key contributor, rushing for 72 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Delta's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 The Academy and 1-8 Bayfield (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 22.8% over those games). As for Bayfield, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
Delta will head out on the road to face off against Montezuma-Cortez at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Montezuma-Cortez will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while Delta is ranked 31st). As for Bayfield, they will be playing at home against Pagosa Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pagosa Springs is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
