The Gaston Day Spartans pushed their score all the way to 55 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 65-55 to Concord Academy. Gaston Day has not had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Deshawn Coulter, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kurt Hunter, who scored 13 points.
Even though they lost, Gaston Day were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Concord Academy only racked up six assists.
Concord Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alek Kornacki, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Kornacki hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Lincoln Raper, who scored ten points.
Gaston Day's loss dropped their record down to 16-10. As for Concord Academy, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-14.
Gaston Day will head out on the road to face off against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Gaston Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Tuesday. As for Concord Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Westminster Catawba Christian is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
