West Sierra recap October 1, 2013
Firebaugh extended the longest winning streak in West Sierra this week by beating Caruthers, 43-33. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Eagles.
Mendota moved up to 670 from 700 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Aztecs climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Yosemite 65-26.
Firebaugh's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Josh Allen threw for 295 and 3 touchdowns and Cristian Patlan had 148 yards receiving. On the ground Frank Herrera contributed 71 yards. Jordan Martinez helped Firebaugh's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 75 yards.
Martinez was a key player and the best on defense this week as william magnusson's team bested the Blue Raiders. The 5-foot-9 junior.
He went 15-23 with 0 interception.
Allen put up the best numbers in passing as the Eagles topped Caruthers. Allen's favorite target this week was Patlan, who caught 6 passes for 148 yards.
Firebaugh's Allen and Patlan have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Allen has thrown for 1,117 yards this season, while Patlan, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 20 catches for 352 yards. Mendota's Edgar Segura leads the league in rushing yards with 713.
Robert Mejia's team lost to the Badgers 65-26 last week, the largest margin of any game.
